Student Health Services recommends vigilance to combat COVID-19
Thu, 04/02/2020 - 4:46pmAs confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to increase statewide and locally, it is likely that each of us will learn that someone we know has the virus.
The University continues to work closely with the state Office of Public Health. If a UL Lafayette student, or faculty or staff member is diagnosed with COVID-19, OPH will contact the University so we can determine if there is a threat to the campus community and take reasonable measures to mitigate the potential for the virus’ spread.
To reduce the risk of spread, public health officials continue to remind you to:
- avoid people who are sick.
- stay at home unless it is necessary to go to work or get essentials.
- distance yourself from others by at least 6 feet and avoid clusters of people.
- cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

The site also encourages the public to use the Keeping Calm Through COVID hotline, 1-866-310-7977. The hotline is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by trained counselors who can help callers work through feelings of stress, fear and anxiety.
In addition, University-related COVID-19 updates continue to be posted to the website and official social media channels.
The health, safety and success of our faculty, staff and students are the University’s primary concerns. If each of us remains vigilant and takes necessary precautions, we can protect ourselves – and our neighbors, friends and loved ones – from this dangerous virus.
